Evangelist Sherry Griffith

Mrs. Evangelist Sherry Willina Thornton Griffith, Prentiss, MS, passed away at Magee General Hospital, Magee, MS, on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

She was a graduate of Cass Tech High School, Detroit, MI, and attended Park Medical School, where she also worked as a Medical Assistant. She continued her education with studies in computer training and bookkeeping. She also earned a certificate in Retail Merchandise. Her hobbies included cake decorating, arts and crafts, and sewing.

She served as a church secretary, Sunday School teacher, and was a dedicated worker with the Children's Church Ministry while still in Detroit. She entered the ministry under the leadership of Pastor James Slappy. After relocating to MS, she and her husband, Elder Griffith, became members of St. John COGIC, where she sang in the church choir and initiated a community Bible Study group. Later, they became members of the Disciples of Christ and served on the Elders' Board. She was active in program printing for the church, the church finance office, and participated in the Nursing Home Ministry. Most recently, she and her husband became very active in their home church, Mt. Carmel COGIC, and moderated the Kingdom and Dominion International Prayer Line every Thursday.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Ruby Thornton; brothers, Jerome, Ricky, and Vincent Thornton.

Surviviors include, husband, Elder Dannie Griffith; son, Samuel I. Griffith, both of Mount Olive; sister, Conciare(Cookie)Lewis( Ronald), Detroit, MI; two adopted sisters, Marie Thornton, Mendenhall, MS and Monika Hall, Texas; two granddaughters, Teanna and Ayane and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, brother in laws, sisters in laws, relatives and friends who will cherish her memory.
