Lavon C Hollis, 86

Lavon C. Shelby was born May 29, 1935, to the late Void and Gertrude Feazell Shelby.  She joined Mount Zion Jr. Baptist Church and was baptized at an early age.  Her education was obtained from the African American schools of St. Peters (site of Mt. Zion Jr. MBC), and Southside located in Mount Olive, MS.  She moved to Detroit after her schooling to obtain gainful employment.  After approximately 10 years in Detroit, she relocated to Los Angeles, CA, where she worked at Cedars Sinai until her retirement.  In 2019 she relocated to Mount Olive, MS, and rejoined Mount Zion Jr. Baptist Church, where she attended until the covid pandemic. She was preceded in death by her parents, six sisters, and one brother.  She leaves to cherish her memories, a daughter, Bonnie (Charles) McMillian, two grandchildren, Charles Jr. and Sharon, and three great-grandchildren, Anissa, Aubri, and Austin; two sisters, Russia Barnes, Mount Olive, MS; Hazel Milton (Tommy), Mount Olive, MS; adopted grandson, Brian Oliver of Colorado Springs, CO; Goddaughter, Tina Reese (Carlton), Mount Olive, MS; special nieces, B. Joyce Fairley, Hattiesburg, MS; Audrea Shelby, Mount Olive, MS; a large number of nieces/nephews, great-nieces/nephews, great-great nieces/nephews.
