Elder Herman Shivers

Elder Shivers passed away on May 21, 2024.

Elder Shivers completed high school in Covington County Schools. He later joined the Navy on August 7, 1957. He loved the Church of God In Christ and remained active in the church throughout his life. He and his wife spent many years in Detroit, MI where they were active in the New Mount Carmel Tabernacle COGIC. He continued his education in Theology and Psychology to enhance his knowledge for the gospel's sake. He was a faithful member until moving back to Collins, MS in 1966 after retiring from General Motors He was a gifted guitar player and organ player. He was also known as the "vegetable man". He loved asking biblical questions to test your knowledge and enjoyed good fellowship. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elder Isom; Shivers( Founder of Friendship COGIC and his mother, Ruthie Mae Shivers( Supervisor of Southern Mississippi of the Church of God in Christ.); his beloved wife, Naomi Gamble Shivers, and beloved son, Elando Shivers. Survivors include his two sons, Kawani Shivers, Collins, and Gary (Ashley) Shivers, Sterling VA. Three granddaughters, McKenzie, Kennedy, and Zaria Shivers, both of Sterling, VA; one sister, Catherine McLaurin, Jackson, MS; five nieces, Georgia O'Hara(Rich0, Vicksburg, MS, Lovie Gibson (Johnny), New Orleans, LA, Carolyn Ballard (VC), New Orleans, Sheryl Funches, Jackson, MS and Sandra White (Keith), Brandon, MS. One nephew, Larry McLaurin(Louise), Jackson, MS and a host of cousins, extended family and friends.
