Mrs. Doris A. Evans Peterson, 66, passed away on August 15, 2026, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center, Jackson, MS.
Mrs. Peterson attended school in Collins, MS until the age of eight. She relocated to Gary, Indiana, and graduated from Emerson High School in 1977. After graduation, she entered the health care workforce and found her love for people. She worked at Rush University Medical Center, John H. Stroger Hospital, Cook County, Illinois, and Jackson Park Hospital. She was a diligent, dedicated employee who showed an impressive commitment to her profession. She had an exceptional gift for gardening. She devoted considerable time to beautifying her yard and also motivated others to beautify theirs. She found her profound love for gardening a sanctuary for peace. She accepted
Christ at an early age at New Way Baptist Church. Later in life, she became a member of New Life Baptist Church, where she embraced an active role within the church community.
She was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents; her father, Willie Griffith; her stepfather, Rev. James Williams; brother, Greg.
Survivors include her husband Lawrence Peterson, Merrillville, Indiana; son, Ronnie Evans, Maricopa, Arizona; mother, Mittie Williams, Collins, MS; Stepsons, Lawrence Edward Perterson, Jr., ( Rashenna), Gary, Indiana and Laurence Edward Peterson, Merrillville, Indiana; seen sisters, LaBrenda King-Smith, Gary, Indiana; Sheila Willians-Arrington(Curtis); Rosetta Williams (Roy); Sheneka Willims-Owens( James); Jaquita Williams; Nickie Gray(Ray) and Intra Sands, Gulfport, MS; two brothers, tony Evans ( Angela), Fredericksburg, VA and john Evans, Hattiesburg, MS; one stepbrother, Rod Hill, Seminary, MS. Two sisters in laws, Brenda Peterson and Simonna Peterson, both of Gary, Indiana; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of Gary, Indiana.
Two god-children, Glenda Keys-Lindsey and Wanda Keys Magee, both of Collins; one bonus daughter, Rozetta Cox, Merrillville, Indiana; special friends, Venita Flucker, Carol Ezell, Viola Peels, Dannetta Thomas, Scottie Lucus, Devin Westbrook, Christine Dickerson, Regina Fleming, Dawn Laffoon, and the Pierce family; fur baby, "Monte", Merrillville, Indiana and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins loving neighbors and friends.
Pallbearers: Roy McNair, Sr., Demetrius Phillips, Ezekiel Brooks, Timon Williams, James Owens, and Tony Williams.
