He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucy M. Barnes and Quitman Pickering; brother, Gerald Barnes and sister, Carolyn Barnes.

Survivors include children, LaCandice May, Maleah Barnes, Adriana May, Ariana Magee, Dontavious Buckhalter, Shirod Pickering Tristyn Maddix; sisters, Sarah Barnes and Luzane Crosby brothers, Joe Barnes and Harold Barnes;

grandchildren, Lailah Richards, Azaiah Buckhalter, Ke'Andre Lindsey, and Ke'Shawn May.
